C’River PDP wins Obanliku state constituency by-election

The PDP State House of Assembly candidate, Pius Ashakia, who polled 275 votes, has won the just concluded Obanliku state constituency rerun election held on February 3, 2024.
The results from the two polling units, Bebuenkanyang and Bayaga, in Bisu ward, where the election was held, showed that Ashakia defeated his opponent, Sunday Achunekang of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 243 votes.
Dr Blessing Anyalebechi, representing the state Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Dr Gabriel Yomere, declared the result of the by-election.

She explained that they had to merge the results obtained during the 2023 general election to that of the just-concluded by-election.
“By the relevant sections of the law and the Electoral Act, I, Dr Blessing Anyalebechi, having certified this result, declare that the candidates for the All Progressives Congress, Sunday Achunekang, scored 10,437 votes, and Pius Ashakia of the Peoples Democratic Party got 10,587 votes. That Pius Ashakia of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected this day, February 3, 2024,” she stated.
